Imamura entered NHK in 1983. He was the commissioning editor of the slot “World Documentary” from 2009 until 2012. Since 2012 he has been working with NHK Enterprises and is in charge of co-production, pre-buy and commission of TV programmes mainly documentaries. He is one of the founders of Tokyo Docs which started in 2011. He is also the producer of his own production unit called Office IMAK.
