After its thirty years of existence and marginalised by its pioneer at the outskirt night club, Funkot re-finds its recognition in the Internet time. Dedengkot Funkot documents the trajectory of Funkot that was born in Kota (West and Central Jakarta), distributed through pirated VCDs, popularised by music producers through Youtube, its entanglement with the drugs culture, and later became a musical phenomenon in the underground dance club in Tokyo.
A group of funkot DJs and music producers dives into the origins and development of funkot music through discussions and debates. The ongoing project finds intersection with the rise of funkot on TikTok and also amongst the Indonesian youth.
Adythia Utama is a filmmaker based in Jakarta, taking on the roles of director, videographer, music producer, and video editor. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Art degree from the Jakarta Institute of the Arts concentrating in documentary. His audiovisual and film works have been screened internationally. “BISING – noise and experimental music in Indonesia” is his first feature documentary film.

Personally, I have a strong interest in various forms of media, such as documentary films, photography, music, sound, and the internet (and its culture). A firm believer that media cannot escape from its context and issues that surrounds it. Currently based in between Jakarta, Amsterdam, and the internet.
